Condoms for women!?

Unfortunately, many women still have problems with men who don't want to use a condom. The reasons are varied: some men are not sufficiently informed about the risks of unprotected sex, others are ignorant of these risks, forgetful, or refuse to use condoms because of cultural backgrounds or simply a personal aversion to condoms; other men use a condom, but find its use a disruptive interruption in lovemaking and react with a loss of erection.

With female condoms, women have the opportunity to actively prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (e.g. gonorrhea, AIDS or hepatitis).

The female condom can be inserted into the vagina before making love. An interruption "in the meantime" is not necessary!

The use of female condoms is also a very good contraceptive option for commercial prostitution. It is precisely here that an active role for women in preventing pregnancy and disease is particularly important.

Female condoms are only suitable for vaginal intercourse!

The Femidom

At the end of the 1980s, the femidom was invented by the Danish pharmacist couple Hessler. It has been available since 1990. It was developed as a counterpart to the condom to give women the ability to prevent STDs regardless of their partner.

The femidom lines the inner wall of the vagina like a very thin second skin. It takes some practice to use a femidom correctly. Some couples are also bothered by the noise generated by the material. A lot of lube helps here. Even if the femidom slips, it helps to use more lube. When used correctly, it has a Pearl Index (5) similar to that of a latex condom (3). If the femidoms are used without exception and correctly during every sexual intercourse, the risk of HIV infection is reduced by about 97.1%. (Source: femidome.de)

What does femidom look like?

FemidomThe femidom is made of polyurethane. It is coated with silicone oil.

It consists of a polyurethane pouch that is 17 cm long and 7.5 cm wide. At the lower end there is a ring that fixes the femidom in the vagina. At the upper end is a ring that covers the labia and prevents it from slipping in. This offers additional protection against diseases such as herpes or trichomoniasis (Source: Family Health International)

How do I use a femidom?

  • Unpacking
  • Hold the inner ring between your thumb and middle finger, place your index finger on top of the other two fingers. Or just squeeze the Femidom together.
  • Insert the femidom as far as it will go. Don't worry - it doesn't hurt!
  • Check that the femidom is not twisted and the outer ring is still outside the vagina.
  • Now the femidom is ready!
  • Remove: Squeeze the outer ring and gently remove the femidom before standing up.
  • Each Femidom may only be used once!

Do not dispose of the female condom in the toilet! It is best to wrap the femidom in paper or a small bag and dispose of it in the trash can.
